One of the things that makes Cape Fear Botanical Gardens different from the other botanic gardens is its “Cape Fear Tree”. This tree has branches that reach from one branch to another. The branches themselves are grown in a special habitat called the Caves of Hope. The roots, branches, and seeds are then put inside a small box called the “Teddy Bear box” with all the other seeds. The seeds are then placed in a tree trunk and exposed to light for two years. During the second year, it’s protected and allowed to grow into a full-grown tree.
