Sanford is a thriving community between Raleigh, Greensboro, and Fayetteville with a population of just over 30,000 as of the 2010 United States Census. Though the town is currently the county seat of Lee County NC, it only became so in the late 20th century, after the town merged with nearby Jonesboro, which became Jonesboro Heights NC. Historically, the town was a producer of bricks because of the special mix of clays available in the area. The are was important in both the American Revolution and the Civil War, and today there are historical sites like the Endor Iron Furnace and the House in the Horseshoe. The Downtown Sanford Historical District also contains lots of old buildings and local history to explore, and the town has lots of buildings listed with the National Register of Historic Places.
This beautiful town is located on the Cape Fear River watershed, and has Little Buffalo Creek running through it. There are a ton of nearby parks and outdoor spaces for locals and visitors to explore that highlight the natural beauty of North Carolina, including San-Lee Park and White Pines Nature Preserve. In addition to natural spaces and historic buildings, Sanford is also accessible by modern highways and has tons of places to dine and relax.
