About Quaint Raeford NC
Located in and the county seat of Hoke County NC, Raeford, North Carolina is a smaller town with less than 5,000 residents as of the estimated 2020 US Census. Founded in the mid 1800s, Raeford was created by two local business owners, AA Williford and John McRae, who combined their names for the post office they established. At the time, the area, known as the Upper Cape Fear Valley of North Carolina, was home to many settlers from the Highlands of Scotland, and many of these families live there to this very day, despite a 20th century influx of Native American families of the Lumbee tribe and the nearby Fort Bragg military installation bringing in newcomers.
Keeping their unique history alive, the community maintains the Raeford Historic District and the historic Hoke County Courthouse. There’s also the Raeford-Hoke Museum located on the grounds of the McLauchlin-McFadyen House, where locals and visitors can learn about the different types of growth and events the community has gone through. The Rockfish Creek Winery combines the historic and nature with the most modern distilling techniques. There’s also fun modern things to do in Raeford NC, including the Wide Open MX Park for driving off-road vehicles, as well as Skydive Paraclete XP, where adrenaline junkies can get their fix.
